The Blue Lotus
The blue lotus is a beautiful flower found in the lakes of Sri Lanka. Despite its roots being submerged in mud and murky water, this resilient flower rises through the sludge, reaching for the sun and emerging above the surface. When it blooms, it enhances nature with its stunning beauty, remarkably showcasing petals free of any mud.
Similarly, many children in Sri Lanka face significant challenges, much like the flower rooted in deep muck. The Blue Lotus Foundation offers a chance for us to be the sun they aspire to reach, helping them rise above their struggles. With the generosity of our community, these children can hold onto hope and believe in the goodness of the world. Just like the lotus flower, they too can overcome adversity and fulfill their potential, illuminating the world with their vibrant colors and contributing to society.
About our organization
Founded in 2019, Blue Lotus Foundation was established in response to the Easter bombings in Sri Lanka which took the lives of 269 people and injured almost 500, including children.
At a time when people needed urgent medical and financial aid, we came together to raise funds to help families who lost loved ones or were permanently impacted by the attacks.
The successful completion of the project inspired us to continue our mission with a focus on helping financially disadvantaged families with school aged children by easing the burden of financial hardship - allowing children to focus on their studies.

We are a Non-profit Organization that provides financial aid to ambitious Sri Lankan children and their families to help them thrive in their school education. Our vision is to breakdown barriers to education and create a generation of empowered future leaders.
100% go to the families
We believe a charity should not charge their donors for overheads. That is why 100% of your donations go directly to the children that most need it. Our administration and fieldwork are carried out by generous volunteers, who also cover operational and administrative costs as a way to give back to their community.

Located on the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka has a population of 23 million with 25.2% under 14 years and 62.4% between 15 to 59 years.
While Sri Lanka gives priority to education through its free education scheme, many living on the margins of poverty struggle to afford books, stationary and educational supplies. Further, the recent economic crisis has affected almost 55% of schoolchildren, especially those in rural areas. This has resulted in many children struggling to access essential educational material to engage in their schooling effectively.
Blue Lotus Foundation is currently focused on supporting children in the Western and North Central Provinces with a mission to expand further into the rural regions of the country.

Help Sri Lanka Fundraiser
With over 120 donors and $5,900 raised, the Help Sri Lanka fundraiser provided much needed material and financial aid to over 7 families who were impacted by the Easter bombings in 2019.

Savi’s Story
After her husband’s sudden passing, Savi’s world was thrown into chaos. With three young children to care for and a minimal income, she had to manage the household expenses, school fees, and step into the role of both mother and father. With the help of Blue Lotus Foundation to pay for their schooling, the children have been able to focus on their studies and for the family to heal from their grief.
Our upcoming projects
Desh’s story
At just 17, Desh’s resilience and courage has already been tested in many ways.
In 2022, his father was diagnosed with cancer, soon after losing his job due to the economic crisis. As the family tackled with the weight of medical bills and increasing living expenses, Desh showed remarkable strength and resilience beyond his years. Through it all, he remained steadfast in his studies, determined not to let his family’s struggles define their future.
Despite the hardships, Desh excelled academically, earning top marks in the Sri Lankan Ordinary Level exams. Tragically in January 2025, Desh’s father passed away, leaving a deep void in their lives. Now, as Desh enters his final year of school, the financial burden of tuition fees and school supplies is a new obstacle to overcome.
Desh’s journey is one of courage and perseverance. With your support, you can help him complete his education and give him the opportunity to pursue the future he and his family have worked so hard for. In this moment of grief, your generosity will be a lifeline, giving him the opportunity to build a future filled with possibility and promise.
